Learning Curve

This year I'm determined to tackle my many (too many) UFOs so I've joined Sew Its Finished - thanks Wendy and Dawn ☺.   I did sign up last year but almost immediately broke my elbow then various other things got in the way, so I ended up a non-starter ... or should that be non-finisher?

I also started this blog to keep track of my progress .... what's that??  It also got neglected so I'll have to resuscitate it too

First step:   I'll have to search out the culprits.  They are hiding everywhere.  I know, because I hid them so I wouldn't feel guilty for not finishing them.  So I guess the first thing is to find them, then make a list so I will know what needs doing and how many of them there are.  Now that's the scary thing as there could be dozens.

Okay, procrastination over ... now the fun begins!

Doing a little sewing at last

At long last I've picked up the needle again.  Why now?  Well, I'm going to a retreat at Bonny Hills in a couple of weeks and I have a challenge gift and a lucky door prize to make for it.  The gift I've chosen to make is appliqued and I'm liking the look of it.  I hope the recipient does too.

I'm still thinking about the lucky door prize, but have an idea brewing.  Just have to search the stash for the right fabrics.  If I find them it will be all go.

I also have to prepare the items (Christmas ones) I'm taking to the retreat to sew and get them packed.  With a bit of luck I'll have some of my Christmas sewing done early this year.

Mmmm, I'd better add the Chatelaines challenge "Through My Window" to my bag to finish too as that is due in by the end of November.

Oh, to Dream of It

Was just over on Helen Stubbings' blog Hugs From Helen and she is having the most amazing giveaway!  Ta Da .... a pattern of her newest quilt Home Sweet Home which is a 10 month BOM.

At first glance it looks like cheeky clamshells, but look closer .... they contain Helen's beautiful stitcheries and lovely sayings AND you can gluestick applique them.  How good is that?

Here's the little beauty

You only need to hop over to her blog, leave a comment and you are in with a chance.  Sigh, I know that diminishes my chances but ...  I can't deny a stitchin' sister a chance so I just had to tell you.

Moving right along

Well, the broken elbow is now as good as new so I'm sewing again.  Although I did have another little break - one of my toes!  At least that didn't stop me sewing.

I'm almost finished appliqueing the front of a machine cover - one of two identical ones I'm making for my DD and myself.  I'm hoping to finish them so I can post them in 'Sew Its Finished'.  I must have started them about 2-3 years ago so it will be good to get them out of the UFO pile.

I've also got to get a move on and get my challenge finished for the SCQ retreat I'm going to at the end of this month.  Better get back to work.

Piecefully,  Jan

Good News

Even though I'll be starting late - but soon I hope - I can still join the 'sewitsfinished' blog and hopefully clear some of the 'unfinished' projects started over a looong period of time.

I start projects with great enthusiasm but the motivation doesn't quite make it to the end - often I only need to add one more round or even sew the binding on but still don't do it and the poor, sad little thing is squashed into a cupboard until I remember it.  I wonder what I will find when I go searching......

I'm hoping the doctor will say I can begin to sew again when I see him on Friday.

Oh dear, a bad start to a good intention.  Before I could do more than locate the clamshells for sewing to my backing I had a bad fall and wound up with plenty of bruises and a crush fracture to my right elbow.  Naturally, I'm right-handed!

Looks like I'll have to wait a few weeks till I get started.  But I'm determined that a few 'unfinisheds' are going to be finished this year.

However, it seems that I will be downloading some iBooks in the near future as there isn't much I'm allowed to do for a couple of weeks.

Another New Beginning

As an habitual non-finisher of all kinds of projects - more than I care to count - I'm turning over a new leaf.  This year I am going to finish as many as I can of them.

The only way to do this is to get organised and then focus on the dreaded list.  Gulp!!

Firstly, I'm joining "sew it's finished" 2012 as this should put me on the right track and provide inspiration.  Then I'd better find some of these UFOs  -  yes, only some - can't set the bar too high!  Having done all that I'll probably need a cup of tea and a good lie down.

No, can't do that.  This is the new me, so I'll track down a UFO and start working on it immediately.
